Upcoming Fundraisers & Events

I wanted to write everyone about some of the upcoming big fundraising events for the band program. The Norwin Band Aides help to enhance experiences above and beyond what the district provides. And these fundraisers are the major means by which we are able to do what we do. Here are some of the upcoming events.

Norwin WGI Regional : Saturday, March 17th (all day) Each year for the last 5 years the Norwin Band Aides has hosted a WGI (Winter Guard International) Regional at Norwin High School. This is one of our large fundraising events for the winter months. There are plenty of jobs to volunteer for contact us to find out more.

Who to Contact to sign-up: Bob Stone enots1@comcast.net or 724-864-6041

Norwin TRWEA show: Saturday, February 4th (all day) This event is set up very similar to the WGI show on a more local scale and including drum-line. We are up to 44 units right now! That is only 2 less than what is at the TRWEA Championships at the end of the season. There are plenty of jobs to volunteer for contact us to find out more.

Who to Contact: Doreen Passarello ldpassarello@comcast.net or 724-863-0892

PMEA Region Band: February 22-24 This year Norwin is hosting the 2012 PMEA Region 1 Band. This group of 144 students is made up of districts from all over the greater Pittsburgh area from as far north as Beaver County. Some students will be staying in a local hotel. Mr. Traugh needs 4 parent volunteers for Wednesday Night (February 22nd) and 4 parent volunteers for Thursday night (February 23rd) to act as chaperones from 8 PM – 6 AM in the hotel. He also needs 5 people to take tickets and sell cd’s on February 24th at 6:00 PM in the auditorium. Lastly, he needs at least 4 people to run the concession stand in the cafeteria from 3:30 – 7:30 in the cafeteria on Wednesday (February 22nd) for students that would like to purchase dinner items.

Who to Contact: Mr. Traugh rtraugh@norwinsd.org or 724-861-3005 x1276

Music in the Parks: This year we are hosting 3 music in the parks events on Saturdays 5, 12, 19 of May. This is a very simple fundraiser for the Band and generally is operated between 7 AM – 2 PM (if not earlier) at the High School and Middle School. We need approximately 12 adults each Saturday to help these events run smoothly.

Please do anything you can to find a way to help out at least once through the winter months. Bring your friends or family! It is actually as much of a social event as it is a service to the young people involved. If our parent and alumni community pulls together I am sure that all of these events will be a huge success.
