A Note From Mr. Daniels

Hello Everyone,

Band camp next week will be from 8am-4:30pm, with lunch scheduled from 11:45-12:30.  

I will hopefully, be able to provide updates on our activities and schedule for the fall.  WPIAL, PIAA as well as the Norwin School District are all scheduled to meet this week to finalize their plans, after which time we will be able to finalize our schedule.

We have been making great strides during the first few days of band camp and I am very excited about the group of students we have this year.  I am looking forward to being able to provide you with solid plans for the fall in the very near future.

A Note From the Medical Staff
Students are working hard at band camp. Please remind them to be eating a well balanced meal, drinking plenty of fluids, and getting adequate rest. Don't forget those hats and sunscreen to protect from the sun, have a mask with them and to social distance from others during breaks.

Juniors - Thursday 7/30
Last name beginning with the letter A to M 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Last name beginning with the letter N to Z 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
 
Freshmen - Friday 7/31
Last name beginning with the letter A to M 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Last name beginning with the letter N to Z 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
 
Seniors with last name beginning with the letter A to M - Monday 8/3
4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
 
Seniors with last name beginning with the letter N to Z - Tuesday 8/4
4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
 
Uniform Fitting Attire:

Compression or tight-fitting shorts / leggings
T-shirt
 
Students should enter the school at Door #9 for a temperature check.

If you did not participate in the Shoe Fitting on Monday, July 20th, please contact Performer's Corner in White Oak to make arrangements to get fitted in the store.

2020-2021 Forms Are Now Available

If you have not completed the necessary forms please due so as soon as possible.

Students will be unable to travel with the band if forms have not been received. It is necessary for ALL members both new and returning to complete ALL forms.

They only have to be completed once per year unless changes are necessary.

Summer Attendance Form
Winds and Percussion Only

As a reminder, students are expected to attend all summer rehearsals in June and July when they are in town, and, starting with Band Camp, attendance at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory.  We have created a Google Form for wind and percussion students / parents to fill out to request excusal from our summer rehearsals prior to Band Camp for out of town trips.  We request that you please submit your form at least two weeks prior to any planned absence.  Separate forms must be completed for each missed rehearsal.  


Once your submission has been received and reviewed by the directors, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from Mr. Daniels or Mr. Kandrack.  If you have any questions, please contact either Mr. Daniels (tdaniels@norwinsd.org) or Mr. Kandrack (bkandrack@norwinsd.org). 


FAIR SHARE

Please see below for this year's fair share payment schedule. The first payment for returning members was due by the end of June.

Payment schedule for paying down the 2020 Marching Band Fair Share is expected per student as follows:

$175 Returning Member/$0 New Member - by June 30, 2020
$175 Returning Member/$175 New Member - by July 31, 2020
$175 Returning Member/$175 New Member - by August 31, 2020
$ 95 Returning Member/$170 New Member - by September 30, 2020

Pepperoni Roll Sale

Orders due Saturday, August 1, 2020
Delivery Monday, August 10, 2020

New! Only Pepperoni this sale. The rolls will now be sold in packs of 6 instead of individually. They will be packed in tamper proof zip lock bags and will avoid the handling of rolls during distribution. 



Packs will be sold for $12.

Points

To senior parents especially, you may have points accumulated from previous years that you don't even realize you have.  If you would like to check to see if you have any points in your account or if anyone would like their points balance or to transfer any points, please email me.  You never know if you have points in the account unless you ask.

Bandwear Sale

Bandwear will be distributed tomorrow during band camp. Items have been separated by section. 

Guard items will be distributed Monday.

Clearance Requirements

As required by Norwin School District policy, ALL volunteers assisting with any Band activities MUST have all of their clearances submitted and approved on Norwin's Safe Kids portal.  Volunteers must also possess and display their district-issued volunteer ID whenever volunteering at any events.  To ensure the safety of our students, there will be NO exceptions.
 
For more information on how to acquire clearances, how to create a Safe Kids account and upload your clearances, and how to obtain a district-issued volunteer ID, please follow this link to Norwin's Human Resource page about clearances:https://www.norwinsd.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1152753&type=d&pREC_ID=1412367.  Once submitted and approved, clearances are valid for up to 5 (five) years from their issue date. 
 
If you are missing clearances, have not submitted any clearances before, or your clearances have expired, we strongly recommend that you begin the process of acquiring new clearances as soon as possible to ensure that you can volunteer whenever those opportunities are available again.  Be advised that some clearances can take several weeks to receive.

We are in need of parent volunteers for the following positions for this upcoming year.  Each of these areas are critical to the success of the Band, and dependable volunteers are needed to fill these crucial roles.
  • Truck Drivers to events
  • Volunteers to take over individual fundraising initiatives
  • Uniform Volunteers (Fitting, sewing, altering etc)
  • Volunteers to help with Props
